Here’s how you can get dishes cleaned in a jiffy!
Washing dirty dishes will definitely rank as one of the least favourite household chores. You touch icky grimy, vessels, your hands get dirty and you can scrub and scrub but sometimes the stubborn stains refuse to go!
Here are our top tips to make dishwashing a breeze!
Don’t get overwhelmed
Looking at a pile of dirty dishes can be really overwhelming. The key is to not let it get to you. Tackle the dishes one by one, takes breaks before your back starts hurting and ask for help!
Get your tools in order
Make sure you have all the right equipment that you need. A clean sponge – change your sponge at least once in two weeks otherwise your cleaning will be ineffective and you will end up dirtying you dishes even more! Keep a slotted tub for draining wet dishes and a leakproof tub for soaking the really grimy dishes. Use a plant-based cleaner. Plant-based cleaners like Osh do not have any harmful toxins and are safe for use, even by those who have sensitive skin. They create less foam and thereby end up using less water.
Dry scrub
Before you wash or soak your dishes, brush your dishes with a brush with bristles to loosen the grime to ensure ease of washing. This is very important to prevent your drain pipes from clogging up.
Soak the grime away
Pour some warm water, add your dishwashing liquid and soak those dishes that are extra grimy in this liquid for some time. This is especially useful for those dishes that are especially greasy. However, make sure that you only soak those dishes that are suitable for soaking. Cast-iron cookware, for example, isn’t. If you have a vessel that has extensive grease on it, consider soaking for a longer period – perhaps overnight.
Get your dishwashing liquid right
Opt for plant-based cleaners like Osh over conventional chemical-based cleaners.
Osh Dishwashing Liquid is 99% natural and plant-derived and completely free of harmful toxins. It is safe for sensitive skin; only allergen-free fragrances are used. It is less foaming which means less water is used. The best part? It can fight tough grease stains that are even 24 hours old!
Follow the instructions
Follow the instructions on your dishwashing liquid. Resist the urge to use too much liquid. Use a clean, strong sponge. Use a sponge made with plant-based materials rather than the ones with plastic fibre.
Move from small to big
Start off with the small items like knives etc, move to the bowls, plates and then finally your larger cooking utensils.
Don’t keep wet dishes on your shelves
Once you wash your dishes, don’t keep them on your shelves. The water could end up ruining your shelves and leave your dishes with a musty smell. Stack your dishes in a slotted tub and let them air dry. If you have the bandwidth, lightly towel dry them before you return the dishes to your shelves.
